Papakura May News

President’s message

This week has been a week of reflecting on service and volunteering across the Commonwealth. King Charles Coronation and subsequent concert reiterated this message to Commonwealth volunteers and community groups that serve.

How fortunate we are to have such wonderful women in Quota locally, nationally and intentionally that continue to willingly give service to their local communities and wider afield.

Next month, New Zealand will have a ” Big Shout Out Day” to acknowledge volunteers to thank them for their service. I don’t need a day to acknowledge the wonderful team of women that you are – every day someone is doing something for someone, building a better community, helping a friend, being a good neighbour etc etc.

At our May club meeting the decision was made for the generous donation from our wonderful Australia Quota club colleagues from Liverpool, which we have matched. $1000 has been donated to “Kids Can” charity NZ, we have requested the money be directed towards the South Auckland Children who were impacted by the February floods.

Thank you for your service.

2023 Quota Antique Fair preparations update …believe it or not only 7 weeks to go!

The next Quota Antique Fair meeting will be this coming Tuesday 16th May at 7pm —thank you Carol for hosting us! There will also be the usual working bee to clean and update the Fair signs and banners—this will be held on Sunday 21st May at 10am at Pam’s place, always a time of laughter, lets hope the recent rainy weather stays away as it is much more fun cleaning the signs on a crisp Sunny autumnal day! Please continue to identify possible Fair fund recipients from our wonderful community , making good use of the fair profits.

Social Morning Tea

Amidst the organising and preparing here is an opportunity for Quota club members and friends of Quota to gather for a social morning gathering in June at Majestic, Takanini, Takanini Town Centre, Shop 5.5/22 Arion Road at 10:00am, come along for a cuppa and catch up that does not require donning working clothes !

Another successful fundraising effort - Papakura Theatre night “Noises Off”

Well done to both the club members who know how to rally round to promote support for our local theatre company which delivered a great turn out for our club. The feedback was that it was an enjoyable night. The ability to enjoy an evening of entertainment, complete with supper and the possibility of taking home the raffle basket offers added value rather than a mere theatre ticket—what a great night out! Once again a collaborative evening between service clubs everyone working together to raise funds for our community. What a lucky community we have! Our thanks also to the members of the Papakura Theatre Club it takes a lot of time, energy and resources to put on the shows that they do….Thank you.
