Service, both local and international is an integral part of our organization and being able to contribute is one of the reasons we belong to Quota International. District 37 Clubs have achieved wonderful successes in their communities. The theme at the annual District Conference held in June and hosted by Quota International of Opotiki was ‘Celebrate Service through Quota’. Clubs have donated a total of $53,238.81 and 2,680 ‘hands on’ service hours to such groups and individuals as Look Good, Feel Better; Women’s Refuge; Hearing impaired children and adults; smoke alarms for hearing impaired; cancer patients; needy families; Stem Cell Research; Leukemia and Blood Foundation; Life Education Trust; Plunket; Alzheimer’s; Growing thorough Grief; HEART; The Hearing House; student Scholarships; Riding for the Disabled; Epilepsy Dogs; Mobility Assistance Dogs program as well as donations to the Quota International Club-to-Club programme. $2,275 was jointly raised for the District Project, Mobility Assistance Dogs. A cheque was presented to Helen Spence, Project Manager and Jody Hogan, Puppies in Prisons manager. More information of this very worthwhile recipient is on www.mobilitydogs.co.nz I am always amazed at the hours of hands on service reported each year. This type of volunteering is an extremely important part of our service. Some of the hours went into baking, sewing, knitting, entertaining and/or helping the elderly, Save the Children Appeal, Women’s wellness, Hospice assistance, Christmas Box appeal, Daffodil Day stalls, charity collectors, collecting and distributing books, assembling and giving away toiletry packs and school packs, making Christmas and Easter treats, and marathon duties – the list goes on. |
