Photo from left to right is: Gov Karla Hammond, Opotiki President Florence Craig, Kathrine Devries, Rosemary Mills, Lt Gov Shona Browne, and Sec Treasurer Sammy Wilson.Quota International of Opotiki pinned two new members at a recent Dinner Meeting held at the RSA. They are: Kathrine Devries, and Rosemary Mills. Both ladies have been impressed with the good work Quota does for the town, and expressed that they too, would like to contribute their time and talent to the community. The evening was attended by the District Team, Governor Karla Hammond, Lt Governor Shona Browne and Secretary Treasurer Sammy Wilson. Governor Karla took much pleasure in pinning the new members, while taking the time to congratulate the Opotiki Quota Club for the work and service they provided to the town.

Thank you District 37 for a wonderful year! And special thankyous to the Presidents of 2010-11 for their leadership and commitment to their clubs over the past year; and where would I be without the support of my District Team, thank you Shona & Sammy for your support.
The District Team has enjoyed our club visits; supporting your fundraising events when we can and celebrating at changeover! There are so many positives to share with you.
QI Convention in Vancouver 2010 was a wonderful opportunity to ‘show-off’ my adopted hometown to the D37 convention attendees. Although I was raised on the Prairies, I lived in Vancouver for 11 years before moving to New Zealand and feel it is ‘home’ too!
There was one very proud Canadian/Kiwi sharing the Canada Day Parade on July 1st with all my fellow Kiwi Quotarians. The parade passed right in front of the Hotel Vancouver with lots of colour, fanfare and musical bands. We all went out and enjoyed a wonderful meal before ‘parading’ down to Vancouver Harbour (your DG proudly leading the way waving the Canadian flag) to see the official Vancouver Winter Olympic Flame and the spectacular evening fireworks. It was a very special day!

Toddler Evelyn van Staden made the most of a special picnic for hearing-impaired children at Cornwall Park recently. Evelyn was one of 20 children who attend The Hearing House – a charity that helps deaf and hearing-impaired children listen and speak – who were invited by Quota Auckland to attend the picnic.
Quota Auckland organised the picnic because they were aware that the Hearing House families did not have many opportunities to get to know each other. They thought a picnic would be fun day for the parents and the children. We wanted them to have a good time, relaxing with the Hearing House staff and enjoying the entertainment. Quota International has been a long-time supporter of 'The Hearing House' both financially and by offering in-kind support.
That includes providing a new sibling care programme which allows parents to focus on therapy with their hearing-impaired children while they are at The Hearing House, while Quota members look after their other siblings. The Hearing House provides specialised Auditory-Verbal Therapy to deaf and hearing-impaired children who have cochlear implants or hearing aids and relies on donations in order to provide its services free of charge to all deaf children and their families.
