Papakura members Rita Croskery, Tricia Court, Pam Ross, Carol Shearer and Norma Cooper who were also members at the first Antiques Fair in 1990. Quota International of Papakura is proud to be celebrating 21 years of hosting their annual antiques fair.
The club hosts this successful event with the sole purpose of raising funds for the community. This year proceeds will be donated to The Hearing House to fund auditory-verbal therapy for South Auckland children who have received cochlear implants. This therapy enables profoundly deaf children to hear and speak after receiving a cochlear implant, and with newborn hearing screening beginning at Middlemore Hospital in July it is expected there will be an increase in the demand for implants and this type of therapy.
The fair begins with opening night on Friday 2nd at 7.30pm with an opportunity to view and buy items from the seventeen antique dealers on site. Refreshments will also be available.
The fair continues on Saturday 10-5pm, and Sunday 10-4pm. The Quota Cafe will be open for morning and afternoon teas, and lunch. James Parkinson and Norman Young will, for a fee of $5 per item (maximum three items), give you the opportunity to have any treasures you bring along valued.
The Quota Antiques Fair is, again, supported by dealers such as Colonial Antiques, Gregory’s, Avenue Antiques and Daphne’s Antiques who are joined by the likes of Jems of Remuera, Starch, Retro and Ikon Antiques and Militaria who have a wide range of goods for sale from china to furniture, jewellery to fine linen on sale.
Over $240,000 has been donated to a wide variety of recipients from this major annual fundraiser. The recipients for 2009 were Franklin SPELD, HEART (a behaviour modification programme for at risk youth in the Manukau region, based on working with horses), and a scholarship and study grants for audiology students at Auckland University completing their Masters studies.
So come along for the experience, the food – and you just might find the very thing you have been looking for! And make the 21st Antiques Fair an even bigger success than before!
