Toddler Evelyn van Staden made the most of a special picnic for hearing-impaired children at Cornwall Park recently. Evelyn was one of 20 children who attend The Hearing House – a charity that helps deaf and hearing-impaired children listen and speak – who were invited by Quota Auckland to attend the picnic.
Quota Auckland organised the picnic because they were aware that the Hearing House families did not have many opportunities to get to know each other. They thought a picnic would be fun day for the parents and the children. We wanted them to have a good time, relaxing with the Hearing House staff and enjoying the entertainment. Quota International has been a long-time supporter of 'The Hearing House' both financially and by offering in-kind support.
That includes providing a new sibling care programme which allows parents to focus on therapy with their hearing-impaired children while they are at The Hearing House, while Quota members look after their other siblings. The Hearing House provides specialised Auditory-Verbal Therapy to deaf and hearing-impaired children who have cochlear implants or hearing aids and relies on donations in order to provide its services free of charge to all deaf children and their families.
